More Rides

Since there has not been much action on the farm (other than getting the 2nd hay cutting done - and thank you Clinton and Blake for helping with that), I'm just going to talk about recent trips.

Two weeks ago I went on a one day ride to Telluride with the Grand Junction Goldwing Motorcycle group. I first rode to GJ to have breakfast with the group and then we headed south. At Telluride it is easier to first travel to the Mountain Village side where you can park your bike in the shade and then you take the free gondola up and over the mountain into the Telluride valley. There we had lunch and wandered main street for a bit. It was an enjoyable day. The picture below shows us dropping down into the valley on the gondola.

Last week I went on a 3 day trip to SLC and visited all three kids. I didn't take the motorcycle though. I took the truck!! It was fun being the bigger vehicle on the road for a change. Remember the lug nut rule. He with the most lug nuts has the right-of-way! I checked out Jenny's new digs in Orem. She seems to be settling in quite nicely. I spent two nights sleeping on an airmattress on the floor in Rindy and Shane's new house. I'll be glad when they get moved in and set up a bed. Clinton and Natalie showed me their thriving garden and fed me fresh tomatoes right off the vine. I also attended a FAIR conference which was quite interesting. If you don't know what FAIR is, then just google LDS FAIR and see their web page. The picture below is Jenny outside her new apartment.

I decided to make a two day motorcycle run to Fishlake in central Utah this week. I have never been to this part of Utah before. I also decided to try camping with the bike. Can I carry enough stuff to camp and be comfortable? It turns out I can pack enough stuff. But I'm not sure yet that camping is the way to go for me. :) Here is my camp site at Fishlake. It was quite pretty there. I see why people like to spend time there.

  1. I'm very impressed! Motorcycle ride AND camping! We tried that once a long time ago. We decided to just ride till we got tired, but one of our friend's bikes (Josh) wasn't working very well so we were stopping every couple miles. Needless to say it took us almost 4 hours to get from SLC to Springville, UT. (normally takes an hour) So at midnight we roll into the walmart there in springville, purchased $10 sleeping bags and a tarp and then drove on to Spanish Fork and up Diamond Fork Canyon. We found a empty campsite around 2am, laid out our tarp and slept under the stars. The next morning we needed gas so we just headed back to SLC, stopping for breakfast along the way at a little mom and pop diner. Poor Josh's bike sure made it a rough overnighter though!
