A major flood came down the creek that runs through our property on Saturday evening. I went out Sunday morning to inspect the damage. Irrigation dams wiped out, fences down, hay wet. It was quite the flow of water. It looked like it went to the tippy top our our 9' road culverts. This was the biggest flood to come down the creek in many many years. It never came close to flooding the house or anything and didn't do any serious damage. And I did find something interesting this morning when I went out for a look, as the photos below will show you.

This is one of our fence crossings. Normally the log is across the creek. It is designed to break away and we just need to swing the log back into place and do some wiring.

This is the upper irrigation dam. The flood totally wiped it out. I'll have to restack the big rocks and fill it in with dirt to make it operational again.

The water totally surrounded our hay barn we have by the creek. (I knew someday it would flood around it). The water was about 3 feet high on the back side, and 2 feet on the front side. But the hay is tightly packed and the water could only seep in at the back and sides, so it didn't do any serious damage. The bottom layers alway seem to get wet. The cows love mouldy hay anyways. They think its candy.

lol! Did you find out whos car it was?
ReplyDeleteYea - it belonged to the grandson of the couple that live in the double wide in the trailer court above. He drove down to look at the flood, got stuck, called a friend with a 4x4 truck, who also got stuck and they called in another 4x4 truck. Or so the story is given.
ReplyDeleteMaratine law says that if it's under the ocean, who ever pulles it up gets it. i wonder if it is the same for floods :)
ReplyDeleteYea! New car for you! I like Clint's like of thinking. I still remember the time we got stuck in that ditch and I got stuck in the back seat with my seatbelt still on.. and someone pulled me out. Maybe Glenny? Wow memories...
