Another Escape from the Farm

The hay was done, the fences were fixed, the dam was repaired. Time to take a break and go for another ride. And this time the wife went with me. Cool.

We left home around 1030 on Thursday and headed south to LaSal Junction and then east into Colorado. The weather was cloudy with light rain showers scattered about. Right at the border, it began to rain lightly. This was the wifes first serious motorcycle ride and I figure she would be thinking "and you say this is fun??" It rained lightly on us for about 5 miles, but that was it. We took our first break at Bedrock and checked out the old store that is there. Then on to Nucla, Co where we had lunch at a "local" resturant. It wasn't five star dining, but it was ok. We checked out a mining museum in Naturita. Then we headed for Teluride. It was still spitting rain drops every so often, but nothing serious. We were thinking of spending the night at Teluride, but as we pulled into the area, we saw lots of signs proclaiming - Bluegrass Festival. Hmm - that event is to Teluride was Jeep Safari is to Moab. Not a good place to be and we knew there would be no staying there. So we headed south for Delores/Cortez.

At the top of Lizard Head Pass (10000+ feet) we stopped and took a picture. It was quite windy. But not too cold. The views were fabulous. Next stop was the mining town of Rico where we rested for a bit with a soda and candy bar. Then on down the valley to Delores and Cortez. We spent the night at Cortez and had a nice dinner and later an ice cream treat.

Friday morning we headed out about 9 and went to the Anazai Heritage Center. A BLM facility. I helped with the Grand Opening of this place 10 some years ago. We spend quite a bit of time looking at the items there. They have a nice display. The picture of Mary with the Puma was taken there. She was so proud of her new sunglasses that she kept them on in the building and looks like a blind lady checking out the cat by feel. :)

We then headed into Delores and went to the railroad museum there and then finally had lunch at the "local" resturant in Delores. From there it was pretty much cruise back home. It was a good trip. It was nice to have the wife with me, but I doubt she will become a regular on the motorcycle.
